The name sound familiar? It may be because he was on the cover of an early issue of Barista Magazine…

Or maybe it’s because he has a really well-known and well-respected roastery in Sweden…

Costas operates a roastery and cafe, as well as this adorable mobile cart, Costas on Wheels, in Umea, Sweden.

Or perhaps it’s because you’ve been hearing all about Costas’ very cool invention lately—it’s called the Intelligent Dosing Ring, or idr, and Costas is offering two of them up to two different winners this week as the Humpday Giveaway prize!

The idr is a lightweight clip that attaches to the portafilter to catch excess coffee grounds. After dosing, the barista can easily sweep the clip off of the portafilter, along with grounds to prevent excess waste.

The idr is a coffee tool Costas conceptualized back in 2005 when he was the Swedish Barista Champion. The idr is a lightweight, plastic ring that clips easily on top of the portafilter, then snaps off as soon as dosing is complete.

This is the idr.

It comes in lots of colors, and it's easy to swap out the plastic ring.

I interviewed Costas about the idr a few months ago when he had just introduced it at the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe’s show in Nice, France, last summer. To read the interview, go HERE.

Now Costas has officially launched the product; he was just in Seoul, Korea, at the Cafe Show, where the idr was a big hit with attendees!

Baristas in Seoul snapped up the idr after trying them out at the recent Cafe Show.

Costas sent me the very first idr ever made—wow!

I'm not giving this away! But two of you readers will win idrs from Costas this week!

Unpacked, this is what the idr looks like. It comes with a great set of instructions for how to use it.
