Rimini is a seriously crazy place, and with 10,000 coffee professionals crowding in for the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe’s World of Coffee event this week, where the World Barista Championship is also being held, this city is set to rise way up on the crazy scale.
Waiting for Rimini from Nuova Simonelli on Vimeo.
Though the permanent population of Rimini is only about 150,000, more than 3 million beach-bound tourists flood the city every summer. There are 1,000+ hotels in Rimini, and around 4,000 bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. When I ask Italians what Rimini’s like, they all say the same thing: that they loved to go there to party when they were younger, but now that they’re married with kids, it’s a little too wild for family holidays.
The coffee community will love the scene though, I imagine, though we’ll likely only be seeing it at night: during the days, we’ll be at the SCAE show and watching the WBC. But in the evenings, we’ll hit the beach for great parties, fun coffee people, and that famous Rimini nightlife.
Here’s a rundown of the parties that are open to everyone in the coffee community that are being hosted this week in Rimini:
