1st Canadian Latte Art Championship To Take Place in Toronto

Thanks to the enthusiasm and gusto of the Dalla Corte Espresso Systems team, Canada will host its first latte art championship late this month in Toronto at the Canadian Coffee and Tea Show. Dalla Corte is the celebrated espresso machine sponsor of the competitions around the world.

It’s kind of strange to think that it’s taken this long for Canada to get into the game that feeds national champions into the World Latte Art Championship pool ”after all, this is the nation that bore Sammy Piccolo and Layla Osberg, Canadians who slam-dunked latte art competitions at Coffee Fest events and elsewhere.

On the international stage, however, this will be Canada’s first time in the ring. So with a history of latte art excellence like the country has, you can expect the stakes to be high right out of the gate.

The contest taking place September 28 and 29 at the Canadian Coffee and Tea Show in Toronto will, however, be an exhibition match, which means a sort of trial run. But make no mistake ”this will be a glam, glitzy, showcase event for the Canadian Coffee and Tea Show. When the United States hosted the U.S. Latte Art Exhibition in 2013, it was an enormous success in terms of introducing the World Latte Art Championship rules and format to the American latte art contingent, and some amazing talents showed up to strut their stuff on stage, the best of whom took home an amazing, high value prize from Dalla Corte.

The Canadian Latte Art Exhibition will be the same if not bigger: Canadian baristas are encouraged to snag their spot on the competition roster as soon as possible, as space for this popular competition will go fast.  The winner will receive a Dalla Corte mini single group professional espresso machine valued at $4,250, as well as a Pro M espresso grinder from Mahlkonig valued at $1,595.

Germany's Christian Ullrich won the title of 2014 World Latte Art Champion in Melbourne, Australia, in May. The 2015 World Latte Art Championship will take place in Gothenberg, Sweden, in June.
