Our brand new issue is out today!

We’re very excited about the content in this colorful and interesting dition of Barista Magazine, beginning with a profile of leading Berlin cafe owner, Nora  Å mahelová. Originally from Czech Republic, Nora and her business partner own Chapter One in Berlin’s bustling coffee scene.  Seeing as she was the German Barista Champ in 2002, Nora is a perfect person to reflect on how Berlin’s coffee culture has grown and changed over the years.

Adding to that, Kyle Freund writes about the myriad cafes that make the Berlin coffee scene as pumping as it is today. Kyle knows what he’s talking about: a longtime coffee industry veteran, American-born Kyle now lives in Germany where he works for Fair Trade.

We also can’t wait for you to see this year’s annual Best Bar Tools piece! We asked friends from all over the world to share with us their favorite coffee tools and equipment. Whether you use this section to guide your holiday purchases for a favorite coffee lover, or you just want to see what some of the industry’s most interesting coffee professionals are using, we’re sure you’ll get a kick out of this fun story.

We were honored and thrilled to get 2x UK Barista Champion Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood to write about his experience in water research, which he not only used to make it to the finals of the 2014 World Barista Championship, but which culminated in a published paper in a major medical journal! Maxwell breaks the hard science down in this story which is endlessly fascinating!

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about one of our industry’s most charismatic people, Jose Arreola, we have the interview for you! The globetrotting barista competition judge and supporter sits down with Kenneth Olson of Barista Magazine to discuss his goals as a coffee professional and role model for young baristas in Central and South America.

We have Field Reports from Colombia by Erin Meister (she meets Juan Valdez!); from Greece by Kenneth Olson (he attends the first Barista Guild of Europe Camp!); and from Panama by Sarah Allen (she falls in love with Let’s Talk Coffee), and much, much more!
