The First Rule of Brew Fight Club Is…

OK, the prize for the coolest new name for a coffee contest, in my book, has to be Brew Fight Club. Founded and organized by  Amnaj Bholsangngam of Chimney Coffee in L.A., and Kian  Abedini of Compelling & Rich Roasters, also in L.A., Brew Fight Club, Battle: Chemex takes place TONIGHT  at Chimney Coffee House, 1100 North Main St., Los Angeles.

Competitors should check in at 6:30 p.m., and brewing will start promptly at 7 p.m. Want to compete? Just email brewfightclub@gmail.com, or check out the website, www.brewfightclub.com.

“Anyone is eligible, so long as they are competing with a coffee the shop they’re representing is offering that day,” Kian tells us.

The prizes? $100 cash and a year’s subscription to Barista Magazine.

Here’s how it will go down, according to Kian:

There is one person on each team. We anticipate 12 competitors. This is “Battle: Chemex,” in which competitors will each brew their shop’s best (15 minute rounds, two opportunities to brew, submitting their best make of the two for judging) with the goal of receiving the highest score from our three judges. The highest two scores will compete head-to-head against each other with a “shop coffee” being served, chosen by Chimney owner Amnaj Bholsangngam.

The first Brew Fight Club event was a huge success. The Battle? Kalita.

Blair Smith of Augie's won Battle: Kalita, at the last Brew Figh Club event. Who will win Battle: Chemex tonight?

Those of you not in the SoCal area, be sure to check back to Barista Magazine’s blog soon for photos and news from the event.

Battle on!
