Today in NYC: The U.S. AeroPress Championship!

The Fourth Annual U.S. AeroPress Championship to be Held Tonight in New York City

Under Line Coffee in New York will play host to the United States AeroPress Championship tonight at 6 p.m. The cafe is located at 511 W. 20th Street, and all are welcome.

Twenty-four competitors will go head-to-head in heats of three to determine who can make the best cup of coffee using the famous AeroPress coffee maker. Judges will include such coffee royalty as  Erin McCarthy, Tersa von Fuchs, Cora Lambert, and Deaton Pigot.

Aerobie, Inc., makers of the AeroPress coffee maker, will fly the winner of the U.S. AeroPress Championship to Seattle to compete in the World AeroPress Championship on April 9 at 6 p.m.  The US-made AeroPress was invented by Stanford engineering lecturer Alan  Adler, who also invented the Guinness World Record setting Aerobie  flying ring. The World AeroPress Championship, now in its eighth year,  is a grass roots event which has grown to nearly three dozen national  competitions worldwide.

World AeroPress Champion Shuichi Sasaki (center) of Paul Bassett Coffee in Japan was awarded the first place golden AeroPress trophy after a night of intense competition in Rimini, Italy on June 9. Sasaki triumphed over 26 other competitors from as far away as Peru, Finland, China, South Africa, and the Philippines. Attendees enjoyed the party-like atmosphere of the competition as well as food, music, and beverages on the beach at the Turquoise Beach Club.
