Specialty coffee in Indianapolis? Yeah, you heard me. Because of people like the awesome BJ Davis, owner of B-Java Coffee & Tea, specialty coffee lovin’ is on the rise in Indy. It’s so popular, in fact, that the Indianapolis Star newspaper has an annual coffee issue, and even had the chutzpah to come up with its own barista competition as a means to get the readers pumped for this year’s edition. Here’s the format:
The paper chooses five baristas from the city at random to:
1) Prepare a signature coffee drink (drinks judged on taste and presentation)
2) Race each other to make a 12-ounce cappuccino
3) Write down as many “coffee terms” as you can in 60 seconds
And the winner is… ANDY GILMAN OF B-JAVA!
Andy’s signature drink was a lavender and honey cappuccino, and he won the “coffee terms” part by naming “12 types of different coffee blends,” the Indianapolis Star reports. Even though I have no idea what that means, I think it’s awesome that BJ’s barista won the contest. Hats off to the B-Java crew! You can read the whole story here.
