Northwest Regional Barista Competition Wrap

The competitors at the 2012 NWBRC gather to hear the announcement of the finalists. In a sweep for the Rose City, all of this year's finalists came from Portland, Oregon.

It was a big weekend of activity in Tacoma, Wash. at the Northwest Regional Barista Competition (and the Regional US Brewers Cup competition) hosted by Dillanos Coffee Roasters. More than 20 competitors sought the Regional crown while nearly a dozen tried to take the Brewers Cup. In the end, much like Highlander, there can be only one. Only here it really was only one: Devin Chapman of Coava Coffee in Portland, Ore. won both events.

Devin won last year’s NW Regional Brewer’s Cup, and this is his first time winning the regional barista competition. With the win, he earns a place in the United States Barista Championship held at the SCAA Event in Portland, Ore. in April, and he also claimed an all-expenses paid trip (with the 5 other regional winners, the USBC champ and the WBC champ) to Costa Rica with the amazing folks from Cafe Imports. Sweet!

NWRBC Final Standings:

1st Devin Chapman, Coava Coffee, Portland, Ore.

2nd Laila Ghambari, Stumptown Coffee, Portland, Ore.

3rd Tyler Stevens, Barista, Portland, Ore.

US Brewers Cup Regional Final Standings:
