And in other news…

Alright, so apparently there’s some coffee company called Starbucks, and they’ve had a lot going on lately. Fine. But guess what? Coffee’s a big world, and some of our favorite coffee folks have had a few great things going on of their own.

First up, Alterra Coffee Roasters in Milwaukee, Wis. got some love recently with Scott Lucey (Feb/March 07 BMag cover guy) and Justin Teisl placing second and third at the Great Lakes Regional. You can read the local news coverage here.

Next up, from the same competition, our pals at the Ugly Mug in Ypsilanti, Michigan get some local love from their community press in the Ann Arbor News.

Finally, this guy, Duane Sorenson created a little coffee company named Stumptown, and with their recent expansion into the Seattle-Tacoma metro area, the Tacoma News Tribune thought it seemed like a good time to do a nice, long story about Duane and his work changing the coffee culture of the Pacific Northwest and the world at large.

  1. Thanks for the love Ken! Check out my flickr, Liz Clayton’s flickr – as well as her site http://www.twitchy.org for more great details from the GLRBC. And of course, big big mad mad props goes to Mike Phillips from Intelligentsia on taking the 1st place crown, his Mai-Tai cocktail/sig drink is one to watch out for! It’s surely making me turn it up a notch.
