Baristas (and Barista Magazine) Head to Puerto Rico to Work on a Coffee Farm

Italian Barista Champion Francesco Sanapo is a man with a mission ”many missions, actually. He’s a true ambassador for specialty coffee around the world, but for the coffee community in his home country especially. Francesco’s latest project is assembling a group of Italian baristas to travel to Puerto Rico along with a film crew, and work the coffee farm Hacienda San Pedro owned by Rebecca Atienza. Baristas will rise at 5 a.m. every day to pick and process coffee, and spend their afternoons with an agronomist learning about the intricacies of growing coffee and bringing it to market.

We published a piece by Francesco about the project HERE.

Now it’s almost time for the kick-off of the event ”it begins November 3 and continues through November 10. Barista Magazine is honored to be the media partner for this extraordinary forum for education, and our own Ken Olson will be traveling to Puerto Rico to report on the experience for the December+January issue of Barista Magazine.

So stay tuned! We’ll bring you all the action from the farm in daily updates on the blog, and of course, Ken’s article about the entire event with photos in the next issue of Barista Mag.
