Congratulations to Michael Phillips (in center of above photo) of Intelligentsia Coffee and Tea in Chicago for his first place finish at the 2009 United States Barista Championship.
Second place went to Nick Griffith from Intelligentsia, Los Angeles. (On the left above.)
And Alterra Coffee’s Scott Lucey from Milwaukee, Wisconsin took third place. (On the right.)
Great job everyone, from the finalists, semifinalists and all of the 61 competitors! It was an honor and pleasure to have all of these great baristas and coffee professionals out here to Portland, Oregon.
You can read the report from the finals on the local paper’s website here. We’ll have more here soon and of course in the April/May issue.
