Welcome to BMag Back Atcha – Week of July 28-August 3, 2014
It’s BMag Back Atcha – Week of July 28-August 3, 2014: our weekly roundup of all the posts from the Barista Magazine blog this week where you can find links to everything we covered in case you missed anything.
We started the week off on Monday with a report about Northern California-based Supersonic Coffee and a new movie they just released about an epic 9,000 mile road trip to their first 9 accounts across the U.S. and Canada. They’ve also launched an innovative program for their first accounts called the Pioneer Program. You can check it all out here: Supersonic Coffee & Its Pioneer Program: Road Trip Movie!
Tuesday we had a story on a new Kickstarter offered up by Andrew Gage of Velo Coffee Roasters in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Not only do they deliver coffee by bike, but one of their pledge levels will get you your own sweet ride. (Even if you can’t pledge quite that much, though, you should definitely check out their kickstarter! It’s cool!) You can read about it right here: I Believe In Velo Coffee Roasters
That brought us to Wednesday, and that means it was time for another round of our popular midweek trivia contest for fun and awesome swag: Humpday Giveaway! This week we had a beach bag, blanket and paddle ball set brought back from World Barista Championship in Rimini, Italy courtesy of espresso machine manufacturer Dalla Corte. You can see the contest here: Let’s Play Barista Magazine’s Humpday Giveaway #72! (July 30, 2014 Edition)
Also on Wednesday we had a story on another kickstarter project, this one from Copper Door , Denver’s only woman-owned specialty roaster, and which is committed to using 100 percent, locally produced wind power to operate the business, including the roaster. Now the owner,Hannah Ulbrich, is looking for funding to open a retail space. Read about it right here: Denver’s Only Woman-Owned Roasting Co. to Open Retail, Hire Baristas
Thursday we announced the Humpday Giveaway winner, and we had a story about a fun (and different) latte art throwdown out of the Silver State (held on Friday, August 1.) Hub Coffee Roasters held a great big area coffee party: Rosetta Roulette! As Joey Trujillo, owner of Hub Coffee Roasters and organizer of this event, says, it’s “A proper Nevadan interpretation of the latte art throw down.” Rosetta Roulette: How They Do Throwdowns in Nevada
The new month started on Friday, and that meant the release of our August + September 2014 issue! We had a preview story of the new issue Introducing the August+September 2014 Issue of Barista Magazine—It’s Our WBC Issue! Also on Friday we had a story about the growth of the coffee market in China. Of course in China that means coffee is literally growing and retailing continues to see great increases in consumers and sales. Chengdu is China’s fourth most populous city, and the HOTELEX show in Shanghai has become one of the most well attended and important culinary and coffee shows in Asia, and indeed the world, so the time was right to expand into a new segment of China’s enthusiastic coffee market Coffee In China Is Booming: HOTELEX Chengdu Debuts
Saturday we had our sixth and final (for now anyway) installment in our popular cold brew series by Jeremy Martin. This time Jeremy takes at look at the future of cold brew coffee and where he thinks it’s headed. Completely Cold Brew Part 6.
