BMag Back Atcha “ Week of September 30 “October 6, 2013

Another busy week on the blog, and another Sunday means it’s time for our weekly wrap-up post, BMag Back Atcha. In case you missed anything, you’ll find links to all of the week’s stories on the blog right here.

We started off the week with a preview of the Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo. Specifically, they set up a pretty awesome brew bar and stocked it with some of the best people in the coffee business to promote specialty coffee to Russian consumers.

Then as the road to Rimini and the 2014 World Barista Championship winds on, we had a report out of Canada about the recently-concluded Western Regional Barista Competition and its winner.

Following that we had a story about a cool reality TV show pilot shooting next month in Puerto Rico featuring Italian barista champion Francesco Sanapo and some of his fellow baristas as they work for a week on a coffee farm.

Across the Atlantic, Spanish coffee pros held a barista competition for baristas with Downs Syndrome.  It was the first competition of its kind in the world and 21 baristas competed. It was awesome!

Back in the States, we had a story out of New York City. Ashley Rodriguez from Third Rail Coffee wrote a report of a cupping and class they recently held exploring Guatemalan coffees.

Then it was time to play Humpday Giveaway! This week’s prize was a sweet set of Anacap cups.

This weekend is Coffee Fest Seattle (where Barista Magazine is exhibiting and sponsor of the Latte Art Championship featuring a $2000 top prize!), and as always there are a lot of social activities that go along with the show. We had a preview post with as many parties as we knew about here:

Just prior to Coffee Fest, the American Barista and Coffee School (who also sponsors the latte art championship) had a warm up throwdown at their place in Portland, Ore. featuring a number of amazing latte artists who were on their way to Seattle.

Finally, we had another installment of Don Niemyer’s cross-country coffee odyssey as his family travels across America in an RV looking for new experiences, cultural and social education and as always great coffee.
