Breaking: NWRBC will NOT take place at Coffee Fest Seattle

I just got an email from Marcus Boni of the Specialty Coffee Association of America saying that the Northwest Regional Barista Competition will NOT take place at Coffee Fest Seattle, as scheduled, Sept. 23-25. No new dates have been released.

“I wanted to let you know that we will not be having the NWBRC in conjunction with coffee fest seattle, writes Marcus. “Both Coffee Fest and SCAA have worked hard this past week in getting pricing in-line with our overall budget, but unfortunately we could not get our production costs down to an appropriate budget amount. Coffee Fest worked especially hard in trying to accommodate our needs. Once we received approval on the ability to host the NWRBC at coffee fest, we wanted to get the immediate word out to potential competitors and attendees. There was still a bit of work to do in the final resolution of the budget and unfortunately that is where we could not make the numbers meet.”

Barista Magazine regrets that the announcement of the competition appears in our new issue, August/September 2011. Please disregard this announcement now.

Marcus says questions about this turn of events can be directed to him at mboni@scaa.org.
