Our friends at Single Origin Roasters are hosting a totally cool Barista Throwdown with La Marzocco on November 8 in Sydney, Australia. Seriously, I wanna buy a plane ticket. We’ll be there in spirit however, with a prize for the winner, though a one-year subscription to Barista Mag might pale in comparison to the other prize: A freakin’ La Marzocco GS/3!! Anyone can go for the low ticket price of $20—get your tickets here.
Here are the rest of the deets:
Approximately 40 competitors, from coffee companies across Sydney, will take part in the throwdown.
Designed to unite the passionate and skilled Sydney speciality coffee industry, the throwdown competition will feature a series of twists and challenges that will set it apart from other barista competitions. Fun elements have been incorporated into the competition mechanics to make it both challenging, and also keep it casual and social.
“We are very excited to be a part of this fantastic event for the Sydney coffee community. La Marzocco equipment is specifically designed with the barista in mind, so it will be great to have some of the Sydney’s best put our machines to the test” says La Marzocco’s Kath Herron.
There will be three La Marzocco FB70 – 2groups center stage on the night for the competing baristas to work on.
Some unique, specially selected coffees will feature in the competition, from green coffee sponsors Origin Traders and H.A. Bennett’s.
Country Valley milk will be used via a three-‐headed Juggler Milk on Tap System from Six Simple Machines.
Visiting from Handsome Coffee, Los Angeles, the throwdown MC will be Michael Phillips, World Barista Champion 2010 winner.
There will be two judging panels comprising 4 judges per panel, including La Marzocco’s Tom Beaumont, H.A. Bennett’s Fay Kamanis, 4 Pines Head Brewer Andrew Tweddell, noted Sydney chefs as well as volunteers from the audience.
Food will be catered by the Three Blue Ducks. Door prizes include a Vario home grinder.
