Holy cow, could the WBC be any more exciting? I don’t know about you, but I’ve been glued to my computer watching performances on zacharyzachary.com, reading Ken’s posts on this blog, watching a bizarre and hilarious video post on Stephen’s site, keeping up with James on his blog, and visiting coffeed often, all week. I won’t bother you with posts about how my dog almost ate a little terrier that wandered into our house the other day, or the awesome pasta feast Kyle made for dinner last night, or how you should all watch Raiders of the Lost Ark if you haven’t seen it for a long time, because we did and it was as killer as ever. (Did you guys know that Karen Allen, who plays Marion, is my second cousin?)
So no, I won’t bother you with that stuff. I’m only here to tell you that the August/September issue of Barista Magazine is out. OK, well not really out, because you won’t get yours in the mail for another week or two. But you can check out all the goodies in this issue on Barista Magazine’s homepage as of now.
Some of the highlights:
• COVERBOY JON LEWIS! When I told my friends that we were going to put Jon on the cover, pretty much everyone said, “It’s about time.” I agree. Jon is one of the best baristas I know, and also, more importantly, one of the best people I know. I went to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, to photograph and interview him for this article, and got to hang out with him, his wife, his daughter, and his espresso truck, for a few days, and it was awesome.
• A great story by Hanna Neuschwander (a barista at the uber cool Portland cafe, Extracto) about what foam really is and why it works the way it does.
• An article by those cool mo-fos at Espresso Parts, Terry and Dave, about baskets. Yes, baskets. They are very important and this article will teach you everything you need to know about them.
