Viva Mexico!

The 2009 Barista Championship of Mexico is taking place right now in Mexico City! I went to this competition last year, and it was a blast, of course, considering the guys putting the whole thing together are the fantastic Arturo Hernandez and Jose Cleofas Arreola. But though I was expecting to see some amazing performances, I was really blown away by the level of professionalism and quality coffee on display. In case you’re curious about it, too, you can watch the championship right now online HERE!

I snapped this photo of the six finalists at last year's Barista Championship of Mexico, moments before the ranking order was announced. The winner was Alelí, pictured in the front row at right. Diue to issues with her visa, Alelí wasn't able to go to Atlanta to represent Mexico at the WBC. In her place, first runner-up Alvaro (back row, far right in blue shirt) performed in Atlanta and did a great job. Both are competing again this weekend!
