Welcome to the October+November issue of Barista Magazine

We are absolutely thrilled to debut the October+November 2016 issue of Barista Magazine today ”it’s our 70th issue!

You might recognize that thoughtful Finnish guy on the cover and in the cover feature ”it’s Kalle Freese, multi-time Finnish Barista Champion and co-founder of the much-lauded Sudden Coffee company. Barista Magazine’s own Ashley Rodriguez spent time with Kalle in the Sudden factory for this story that chronicles Kalle’s beginnings in Helsinki through his dynamic enterprise unfolding in San Francisco.

We’re also stoked to introduce the brand-new column, “High Maintenance: Your Equipment Questions Answered.”  Inspired as much by NPR’s “Car Talk” as by the seminal Dear Abby, “High Maintenance” is penned by longtime coffee equipment service technicians Alex Lambert and Jason “Double J” Johnson, who just made the leap from Stumptown’s service department to launch their own company, Black Rabbit Service Co. Alex and Double J can answer any and all of your coffee equipment-related questions, as you’ll see in the first installment of “High Maintenance.”

Our popular series, “New Adventures in Cold Brew” continues in the October+November issue with a feature on the emergence of cold-brew coffee competitions and throwdowns, which are on the rise as alternatives to latte art and other barista contests. There’s plenty in this article to help you throw a cold brew competition of your own.
