2011 WBC Finalist Número Cinco

The fifth finalist of the day, the UK’s John Gordon just wrapped up his performance. While yesterday he went over time by just a second today he finished with time to spare.

The theme of his performance was exploring varietals, and to that end, he used two varietials from the same coffee farm in Arusha, Tanzania, processed the same way, and presented side-by-side as espresso for the judges. (Only one set was for evaluation.) He also expanded on the theme by investigating varieties of hops for his cocktail style sig drink before settling on one from the US.

What those in the arena are wondering is how James Hoffmann managed to provide his play-by-play commentary for his Square Mile barista since normally he ducks out to calm his nerves.
