Barista Champion of Slovakia

Editor’s note: As we approach the beginning of the 2014 World Barista Championship, which takes place in Rimini, Italy, June 9 “12, at the SCAE’s World of Coffee event, we would like to introduce you to the National Barista Champions who all worked incredibly hard to earn a position in this preeminent coffee contest. How many years have you worked with coffee or in the coffee industry?

Before coffee, did you work in a different job or industry, or what did you study in school?
I was studying arts and interactive media.

How did you get started in coffee?
At a hostel reception with a small espresso machine.

What was your first amazing experience with coffee?
Filtered Kenyan coffee over ice.

Who has been your greatest influence in coffee? Why?
Basically everyone I have worked with so far. I’ve learnt so much from each of my colleagues and friends.

Name a barista you admire, and why:
Colin Harmon. He is one of the best and incredibly funny!

What are your interests outside of coffee?
Movies, photography, music, cooking.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
On a proper holiday! On a small island with white sand beach, blue ocean, and palms.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or who helped you prepare for the WBC?
Ralf, for supporting me in every way possible and for roasting my coffee. Nora, for all the advice, help, and training. And everyone else who supported me in any way.
