We’ve been called out not once but twice to do the ALS ice bucket challenge now. The first time, former Barista Magazine cover babe, Anna Gutierrez, called editor Sarah Allen out to take part in the now-famous ALS ice bucket challenge, a gag to raise money for research into treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, that has swept the globe since it was started July 29. Since then, the ice bucket challenge campaign has raised more than $4 million for ALS research, which is almost four times as much money has been raised annually in the past.
“We have never seen anything like this in the history of the disease, said Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of The ALS Association, in a statement. œWe couldn’t be more thrilled with the level of compassion, generosity and sense of humor that people are exhibiting as they take part in this impactful viral initiative.”
In case you’ve been on another planet for the last few weeks ”which would pretty much be the only way you wouldn’t have already heard about this ”here’s how it works: Person A pours a bucket of ice water on her head, and challenges 3 friends (Persons B, C, and D) to do the same in the name of ALS research. In addition to the bucket dump, each person must also make a donation to ALS research. Person B, C, and D, pour buckets of ice water of their heads, and call out three more friends each to do the same. And so on. Everyone from Matt Damon to Ethel Kennedy has been seen in video clips doing the ice bucket challenge.
Barista Mag’s Sarah Allen sidestepped the ice bucket dump part of the challenge when Anna called her out a few weeks ago, though Sarah did still make a donation. So when our friends at Nuova Simonelli called Sarah out today, she knew it was time to face the music ”er, ice ”and do the dump.
Without further ado, we present Barista Mag Editor Sarah Allen getting iced, and also calling out another three people to take on the ice bucket challenge.
