Job Posting: We Are Looking for a New Online Editor at Barista Mag Online!

Position description:

The Barista Magazine Online Editor is responsible for writing articles (at least 2, no more than 3) and editing and posting a total of 5 articles per week (approximately 300–500 words each) on an ongoing basis for baristamagazine.com. The Online Editor will assign, format, and proof items submitted by other writers (approximately 2–3 per week). The Online Editor is also responsible for writing 1 Instagram post for each story, to be submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief.

Communication/work flow:

The Online Editor will work closely with Barista Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief and Managing Online Editor, and the Online Editor will be responsible for staying on top of coffee trends, politics, and events, and brainstorming story ideas on a constant basis. Additionally, both editors will provide the Online Editor with article ideas.

For at least the first 3 months in the position, the Online Editor will have weekly Skype/FaceTime calls with the Editor-in-Chief to discuss the schedule and brainstorm ideas for the coming weeks.

The Online Editor will work with the Managing Online Editor to ensure clean, concise articles are posted 5 days per week to the website. Communication will be conducted primarily through email.

Position information:

This is a part-time position. The expected workload is approximately 20 hours per week. The Online Editor is a 1099 contractor. 

The position is off-site. The Online Editor can work from wherever they want and whatever hours they desire as long as they complete the assignments on schedule.

Required skills:

Excellent writing and editing abilities

• Management of writing assignments and articles until completion

• Strong copyediting skills and knowledge of AP Style required

• Ability to work quickly and turn around stories without delay

• Self-directed with an ability to work independently

Experience:

Published writer in print and/or online. Experienced coffee professional with an understanding of the specialty-coffee industry and a desire to contribute to the coffee community.
