Mahlkönig Redefines the Traditional Advent Calendar

World Barista Championship grinder sponsor Mahlkönig has come up with a unique way to celebrate the holiday month of December: with an Advent calendar.

Those of us who celebrate Christmas may be familiar with the Advent calendar, which comes in many forms including the most popular paper and sweets. My parents used to give me a beautiful Advent calendar each year, and I excitedly looked forward to each evening before bed, when I would get to open one of the paper windows on the calendar to reveal an until-then hidden illustration. I recall a favorite was a big, fancy house, and the little windows I would open would reveal a mouse, say, scurrying between the walls, or the goodies tucked inside a Christmas stocking hanging by the fireplace.

Other calendars actually include little chocolates or sweets behind the windows, showing that the design and concept of Advent calendars have come a long way since the first one was created by hand in 1851 in Germany.
