For the past several years, the informational project, “PIR” has successfully hosted the Coffee and Tea forum, which quickly became the meeting spot for coffee industry professionals. For the PIR event in 2013, which will be held October 1 “4 at the International Exhibition Centre, “Crocus Expo,” in Moscow, top coffee professionals and experts will gather for the biggest Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo yet.
This year’s Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo will take place over 5000 square meters (almost 54,000 square feet), and will include a grad exposition with exhibitors from more than 100 countries. This year’s expanded program will include more than 80 seminars led by industry experts ”7,000 from Russia alone. Guests to PIR include baristas, regional coffee championship judges, owners and managers of top area cafes, roasteries, bars, restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs; as well as many coffee producers and equipment distributors.
But make no mistake: The Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo is not just a show for experts in coffee; newcomers as well as business and marketing professionals will have loads of master classes from which to choose, as well.
The Main Business Stage will be the epicenter of business talks (business oriented programs). For the first time within the exhibition the œIdeal Coffee House will be introduced as a larger theme for the show. Experts will be invited to speak on the topic from companies like Nuova Simonelli (who is the official technical partner of the Main Business Stage, the professional coffee machine producer, as well as the Official Espresso Machine Sponsor of such internationally lauded events as the World Barista Championship); and Business Russia (also an official technical partner of Main Business Stage, Business Russia is a group of companies that executes a high-quality services and equipment for catering establishments). Some of the speakers on this stage will include internationally celebrated baristas and business owners Gwilym Davies, Colin Harmon, and Fritz Storm.
The final stage of the program, Coffeeducation League “ Russia, will be also launched within this area. The grand prize will be a trip to the Barista Camp in Japan. Owned and operated by Fritz Storm and Japanese coffee expert Kentaro Maruyama, the Barista Camp is an intimate retreat for coffee professionals to hone their skills and expand on their coffee education.
The area The Coffee Box will proudly host seminars from coffee industry leaders such as Dan Streetman, who is the Green Coffee Buyer at Irving Farm, and is a head judge for the United States Barista Championship; Sonja Bjork Grant, a barista, roaster, and barista trainer, and a head judge for the World Barista Championship, the World Latte Art Championship, and the World Coffee In Good Spirits Championship; and Ettore Scagliola, La Marzocco sales specialist. La Marzocco, which is the technical partner for the Coffee Box, has a reputation of excellence around the world due to the quality of its boutique espresso machines and technological innovations in the global coffee industry. Traveler’s Coffee ”which is another technical partner in the Coffee Box area, and operates a network of coffeehouses and offers a range of products from around the world such as 1883 Philibert Routin syrups, Mazzer grinders, and La Marzocco coffee machines ”is providing the Coffee Box with innovative coffee machines.
The Tea Garden area will provide visitors with business workshops based entirely on the topic of specialty tea. Guests will learn how to open and run a tea room, get qualitative tea at an acceptable price, increase profit in an institution, and many other things. Herbal teas ”a popular trend ”will be the focus of a number of master classes led by Dmitriy Zhukov, the founder of the brand Jivoy-travyanoy; Yury Popov, CEO of Kofeshenk; and Alexander Grachev, founder of the project Ivan tea house and CEO of Ivan tea Ros. The Tea Garden will also host a special program on different tea-producing countries with experts from India and China. Doctor Sakkeer Hussain from India will run a seminar called “From Leaf to Cup, which should prove enlightening to tea professionals of all levels; Gregory Potemkin, who has lived and worked in tea in China for five years, will share secrets of maintaining successful online Chinese tea store and the organization of tea tours.
The Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo will also debut a new area called Samovar bar. Victor Enin, who operates the club, Chahigh tea & ice cream, will share his own achievements concerning the creation of a tea bar, and also will host a tea tasting. Throughout the Tea Garden, guests will be able to try teas from all over the world prepared in their traditional styles.
The Brew Bar area at the Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo will provide visitors with education on alternative ways of coffee brewing, from Chemex to super automatic coffee machines; from classical espresso and cappuccino preparation to the coffee cocktails. Also in the Brew Bar, tea experts will demonstrate how to correctly brew the tea based on its look and grade. The area will be provided with equipment by Hario, the official partner of the Brew Bar.
The Lab will take place for the first time within the exhibition. The area will host experiments with coffee taking place during interactive master classes with Timur Dudkin, Head of green coffee quality for Mare Terra, Chief Trainer IECAFE, AST SCAE Trainer, and expert on the topic of bean-to-cup. Mare Terra of Spain is the technical partner of the Lab, and will be the host of the Alternative Cup-Tasting Championship. In addition, the Russian Coffee Roasting Championship will take place in the Lab. The championship will be organized and produced by representatives from IE Café, which is another technical partner of the Lab. Based in Spain, IE Cafe is a training center certified by the SCAE. All winners will receive prizes from the Segers and unique cups from Reg C Barber.
Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo will also present a brand new and interesting area called the Super automatic battle, where super automatic espresso machines will be set up and available to visitors to try coffee from. Visitors will even get to vote on which coffee is their favorite.
Every evening throughout the exhibition, known Moscow coffee houses and tea rooms will host the Moscow Coffee and Tea Festival. This is the evening program during which professional baristas and tea sommeliers will carry out not only trainings, but will also give the opportunity to taste the tea and coffee masterpieces, including unique specialty drinks in an informal atmosphere. The final event of the festival will be the Barista Party, which is sure to be a fun evening for all coffee professionals and their friends.
The Moscow Coffee and Tea Expo is an international gathering of professionals and colleagues designed to provide professionals with education, access to new products, and fantastic networking opportunities.
