Most baristas enjoy a good Thursday Night Throwdown when the opportunity rolls around, but it gets even better when someone is pouring a rosetta in a zombie costume. This Halloween season, you’ll find cafés across the country honoring this ghoulishly enjoyable tradition with some festive flair and costume contests at their latte art throwdowns, not to mention a sparkling tasting competition from Glitter Cat. Read on to find out if there’s an event in your area this Halloweekend!
Thursday Night Throwdowns—TONIGHT
Vernon, Calif., Everett, Wash., and Sebastopol, Calif. will be hosting spooky Thursday Night Throwdowns tonight, with prizes awarded to best costumes by Retrograde in Sebastopol and Narrative Coffee in Everett. Retrograde will be accepting donations for coffee gear to deliver to getchusomegear, and Cafe Dulce even has a pumpkin patch planned for their throwdown in Vernon!
Halloween Day Throwdowns
Renton, Wash.’s Boon Boona, West Oak Coffee Bar in Denton, Texas, and Joe Van Gogh’s Durham, N.C., location are throwing down on Halloween Day, October 31, which appropriately falls on a Thursday, too. This will be Boon Boona’s first-ever throwdown, and West Oak is donating their proceeds to the Denton County Friends of the Family for victims of domestic violence.
Non-TNT Halloween Coffee Events
Glitter Cat bootcamps are officially in full swing, and they’re celebrating the occasion with a public competition this Saturday that challenges both taste palettes and roasting knowledge. Interested competitors will be paired with a Glitter Cat for help, and are encouraged to show up in costume to be a part of the raffle!
Dark Matter Coffee’s Star Lounge in Chicago is hosting a family-friendly Halloween costume party this Saturday, so be sure to get your little ones dolled up for the afternoon. Star Lounge is also screening scary movies tonight and on Halloween night—you get to pick the flick.
