When I first heard about the Wise Brewer, the debut product from Athens, Greece-based Wise Coffee Products, I was intrigued by its promise of combining cutting-edge technology with user-friendly design. The brewer is the brainchild of Tasos Galanis, whose dual role as founder and sales development executive for Mr. Bean Coffee Company hints at deep industry roots.

With its focus on precision, sustainability, and connectivity, the Wise Brewer seemed poised to cater to both home enthusiasts and professional baristas. Naturally, I was eager to see how it performed in a real-world coffee shop environment.

Design and Technical Specifications

At first glance, the Wise Brewer’s modern, minimalist design is hard to ignore. Its clean lines and customizable color options make it a stylish addition to any counter. Constructed with premium materials, including stainless-steel boilers and magnetic caps, the machine feels durable yet sleek.

Weighing in at 15 kilograms, it’s substantial without being cumbersome. Measuring 39 cm in height, 41 cm in length, and 15 cm in width, it’s compact enough for smaller spaces, whether a café bar or a kitchen counter. The touch screen is intuitive, and the layout allows for easy navigation through its many customization options.

Key features include:

  • Dual stainless-steel boilers (600 ml preheating and 1200 ml main heating)
  • A 1.7-liter water tank with a TDS sensor for real-time monitoring
  • Programmable profiling menus to adjust extraction variables like water temperature, flow rate, and blooming time

These technical specs set a solid foundation for precision brewing.

Dual Water Connection Options

One of the Wise Brewer’s standout practical features is its flexibility in connecting to water. Users can either fill the 1.7-liter water tank manually, which is ideal for smaller café setups, or connect the machine directly to a water supply.

The latter option is particularly useful for busy coffee shops, as it eliminates the need for constant refilling and ensures the brewer is always ready for high-volume usage. Switching between these options is seamless, making the Wise Brewer adaptable to different operational needs. During testing, we used the manual fill method, which was straightforward and quick, though I could see how the direct connection would be invaluable in a fast-paced environment.

Brewing Experience

Setting up the Wise Brewer was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions in the manual. After plugging in the machine, it took about three repetitions of the “Run Water“ process to prime the boilers and ready the system.

Once operational, the interface made recipe customization a breeze. The profiling menu allowed me to tailor the brewing parameters to match the coffee beans I was working with—a washed Ethiopian coffee with floral and citrus notes. I adjusted the temperature to 94° Celsius, opted for a blooming phase of 30 seconds, and fine-tuned the water flow rate to maximize the coffee’s bright acidity.

The machine’s rotary pump worked silently, and the stainless “rainy head“ distributed water evenly over the grounds, ensuring a consistent extraction. The resulting cup was clean and well-balanced, with the Ethiopian coffee’s delicate flavors shining through. My barista collaborator appreciated the precision and consistency the machine offered, noting that it reduced the guesswork often associated with manual brewing.

In addition to coffee, I also used the Wise Brewer to prepare a delicate loose-leaf green tea. By adjusting the temperature to 80° Celsius and extending the blooming phase slightly, the machine produced a perfectly steeped tea with a vibrant, fresh flavor. One standout feature was the ability to save recipes in the profiling menu. This functionality is a game-changer for busy cafés aiming to maintain consistency across baristas or for home users experimenting with different beans.

Cleaning and Maintenance

No coffee equipment “Test Drive” is complete without considering ease of maintenance, and the Wise Brewer scores high marks here. The machine’s exterior is easy to wipe down with a damp cloth, and the water tank is accessible for regular cleaning.

Descaling is a crucial aspect of maintaining any brewer, and Wise Coffee Products emphasizes its importance in extending the machine’s lifespan. The manual recommends using a suitable descaling agent to prevent mineral buildup on the heating elements, which can impact water flow and brewing temperature. Following these guidelines, I found the descaling process straightforward and well-supported by the machine’s design.

Another thoughtful feature is the machine’s safety protocols. The two main switches—the power switch and a dedicated boiler switch—make it easy to power down the system for cleaning or transport. Additionally, the machine alerts users to potential issues, such as low water levels or boiler malfunctions, ensuring proactive maintenance.
