I totally love the Avett Brothers. The band fronted by brothers Seth and Scott has been around since 2000, and originated in Concord, North Carolina. Their brand of folksy, rock-y, guitar-lovely music is hard to resist. If you’re not familiar with them, check out this little vid of one of my favorite Avett Brothers songs, “I And Love And You”:
Anyway, one of the best roasters in the country happens to be based in North Carolina, too, and I’m talking about Counter Culture Coffee, which is headquartered in Durham. Now the two Southern darlings have gotten together in an effort to raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude is an internationally revered kids hospital that works tirelessly to create advanced treatments for children with cancer and other deadly diseases. They also support the families of the children in the most exceptional ways.
The Avett Brothers became involved with St. Jude when bassist Bob Crawford’s daughter, Hallie, was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. The Crawfords were terrified when they learned their insurance wouldn’t cover Hallie’s brain cancer treatment ”and then St. Jude stepped in. Now Hallie is being treated at St. Jude, and her family ”and all other families of children at St. Jude ”are charged exactly NOTHING for treatment, travel, housing, and food.
Counter Culture Coffee and the Avett Brothers wanted to give back to St. Jude in a very special way: introducing the St. Jude Project coffee, available now through February 28. $10 from the $16 purchase price of each bag will go directly to helping the hospital’s incredible work.
