Ally Coffee expands champion trip to Brazil to include the winner of the 2016 World Brewers Cup
Ally Coffee has signed on as the Origin Trip Sponsor of the World Brewers Cup. As such, the soon-to-be-crowned winner will join the Ally Coffee Trip for the champions to Brazil in July.
In February, Ally Coffee and the SCAA announced Ally Coffee as the new U.S. Coffee Championships Origin Trip Sponsor. As such, Ally Coffee committed to taking the top two finishers in the United States Barista Championship; the United States Brewers Cup, and the United States Roaster Championship, to visit three coffee-producing regions of Brazil in July.
At the U.S. Coffee Championships Awards Ceremony at the close of the SCAA show in April, the newly-crowned winners and runners-up in these three contests were thrilled to learn of the origin trip prize from Ally, who will cover all airfare, accommodation, meal, and activity costs for the attendees.
“I’m so excited about this trip,” Andrea Allen said after winning second place in the USBC in April. “It’s going to be amazing!”
Now, the group gets even bigger ”and even more prestigious ”with the announcement that the winner of the World Brewer’s Cup will also be extended an invitation on the journey.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have the honor of escorting these coffee champions through some of Brazil’s most beautiful farms,” says Ricardo Pereira, Director of Coffee for Ally. “We are going to do so many fun things, and everyone is going to learn so much.”
Ricardo and his team have been hard at work planning the trip for months already: The champions will work in teams on various informal challenges in roasting, brewing, and espresso preparation. They’ll also meet up with Brazilian baristas for a huge party at a craft brewery in Belo Horizonte at one point. Ricardo is perhaps most excited about the champs taking part in a latte art throwdown in the middle of a coffee field, something that has never been done before.
Nuova Simonelli will assist with equipment and logistics for the throwdown, with the company’s own Gianni Cassatini in attendance on the trip. Also on board will be Reg Barber, who is hard at work crafting tampers mahogany collected from one of the Brazilian farms the coffee champs will visit.
“It’s the most amazing group,” Ricardo says of the champs and special guests who will go on the trip to Brazil. “Adding the world champions will only make it more special.”
