BMag Back Atcha “ Week of September 9 “September 15, 2013

I’m so excited that it’s Sunday! That’s because Ken gets back from Brazil tomorrow! So as I type this and look back on all the coffee news we wrote about here on the blog this week, I recall also how very long a week it was with Ken away. Yes, the busy season has begun. It was a relaxing summer, and now things are gearing up again ”events like crazy! We’re traveling to a lot of places this fall and winter and will be bringing you news from the coffee world, literally around the world. Exciting!

Monday’s post was really popular: tons of you clicked in to read about the Center Camp Cafe at Burning Man, which is the epicenter of the enormous, annual living arts event. Jamie Rice sent photos from her experience as a barista there, and we posted them!

Fresh from some very long flights, Ken wrote about being in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Tuesday, for the International Coffee Week!

Everyone’s favorite coffee trivia competition, Barista Magazine’s Humpday Giveaway, took place on  Wednesday, with a big prize up for grabs: A Baratza Encore grinder! 140 of you played to win!

Also on Wednesday, Ken wrote about a super interesting seminar led by Ryan Knapp of MadCap Coffee, that took place at the conference in Belo Horizante. Ryan spoke to a curious crowd about challenges and solutions in coffee retailing.

Thursday we announced not one but two Humpday Giveaway winners: Alyssa Bell was the winner of the Baratza Encore grinder, and we offered a one-year subscription to the international winner, Nicolas Wyseure!

We’re gearing up for one of our favorite shows of the year, Coffee Fest Seattle October 4 “6! One of the very most fun things about Coffee Fest Seattle? The Latte Art Championship, of course! And on Thursday, we revealed the competition bracket for the show!

And since we were talking about latte art events anyway, Ken thought it would be fun to share photos with you readers from the first ever TNT (that’s Tuesday Night Throwdown, in this case) that took place in Belo Horizonte! In his post on Thursday, Ken wrote about how the Brazilian baristas kicked it up a notch by adding salsa music to the mix!

Friday we previewed the awesome Caffeine Crawl scheduled for Saturday in Denver. These events have been taking place around the country for a few years now, giving coffee professionals and enthusiasts alike a close-up view of some of the best cafes and chocolate shops cities like San Francisco, Vancouver, B.C., Boston, Kansas City, and plenty of others, have to offer!

I spent some time Saturday thinking about the Nordic Barista Cup, which concluded on Sept. 7 in Oslo, Norway. In my Saturday post, I shared the winners of the competition as well as some thoughts about how the popular event has changed in the 10 years it’s been taking place.

And that, friends, was what happened on Barista Magazine’s blog last week! As I type this, we’re in the last days of production on our October+November issue, and let me tell you: we are stoked about this issue! We hope you’ll like it, too!
